Fiji Islands Backpacker Guide

Yasawa Group

The Yasawa Island group is a long straight chain of approximately 20 islands extending from the tip of the most north west corner of Viti Levu. The islands are small and offer white sandy beaches, volcanic terrain, and splendid south pacific blue waters. The island is as diverse in its accommodation facilities as the Mamanuca Group and offers much in the way of backpacker accommodation for the budget traveller's. The islands have a small population of under 6000. The activities on the Yasawa range from trekking, kayaking and diving to yachting and finding untouched surfing breaks. Transfers to the islands are provided by the 'Yasawa Flyer' and this service operates daily from Port Denarau Marina. These islands are developing tourism and many a time you will be invited to a local village for a traditional kava ceremony and local lovo (tradition style of cooking in the Fiji Islands).
