Fiji Islands Backpacker Guide

Lau & Moala Island Group

The Lau Group is further and less accessible than the other island groups being about halfway between Fiji and Tonga off the eastern coast of Viti Levu. The island group has two airstrips that offer biweekly trips to Suva and back. The islands are also accessible by boat that leaves, approximately every two weeks. The group has about 57 small islands an area divided between Northern Lau and Southern Lau. Some of the islands are volcanic in nature while others are made entirely of limestone. The areas are relatively untouched and many protected by the Fijian Government. If you choose to make a journey to the Lau Group, there are a few backpacker accommodations available. The islands are host to rare diving experiences, snorkelling, and fishing.

The Moala group is in the southwest corner of the Lau Group is made of three islands that are essentially inaccessible to visitors unless you have an invitation by one of the local villagers.
